Renovation of a Neo-Renaissance building in Piran. The building, dating from 1879, is protected in the Register of Cultural Heritage.

The renovation of the Neo-Renaissance building is conceived as a restrained dialogue between contemporary use and respect for cultural heritage. Natural materials—stone, wood, and lime plaster—are employed to emphasize the timeless quality of the space and the honesty of its materiality.

The interventions are carefully considered and focused on preserving authentic elements, such as freestanding sculptures and stone wall details. An important aspect of the project involves addressing moisture issues through a band of stone gravel along the perimeter walls.

The renovation is adapted to the user’s contemporary needs and designed with long-term use in mind.
